Broccoli Pasta Bake

Like tuna pasta bake, but with broccoli. So, nothing at all like tuna pasta bake I guess... Anyway, it's still good stuff. Very quick to make, and broccoli is full of iron which makes you grow up big and strong. This recipe involves making a white sauce. Now this is pretty easy to do, but it might be worth checking out the 'How To' section on the website to see how it's done.

STEP 01

Grate the bread with a cheesegrater until you get breadcrumbs. Pull any large bits or crumbs apart with your hands. Leave them all to one side, we'll use them later on.

Then grate the cheddar cheese. Again, leave to one side-we'll use it later on.

STEP 02

Fill a big saucepan 2/3 full of water and put it onto boil.

STEP 03

Turn the grill on, we'll use it at the end, but need it to get hot first.

STEP 04

Image

Once boiling, add a pinch of salt, then add your pasta. Cook this for about 15 minutes, or until the pasta is ready. (To see if it is, scoop out a bit on your fork and taste it. If it's still a little hard, keep it boiling for another 5 minutes or so.

STEP 05

Image

Once the pasta is ready, add in the broccoli.

Now get a small saucepan and put it on a medium heat (about 4 or 5 if you're electric, halfway if you're gas.) Throw in your chunk of butter and as soon as it's melted, add in your flour and mix well.

STEP 06

Now drain the broccoli and pasta and put back into the big empty saucepan. Leave that on the hob for a second, but most importantly, off the heat.

STEP 07

Pour in a drop of milk into the flour and butter mixture and stir well until the buttery lump turns a bit more liquidy. Keep pouring in the milk and stirring until it makes a smooth and creamy sauce. This may take up to 5 to 10 minutes, so keep going with it.

STEP 08

Add the stilton

STEP 09

Once it's at a smooth and creamy texture, pour it into the large saucepan with the broccoli and pasta and mix well.

STEP 10

Image

Now pour this into an ovenproof dish and put the breadcrumbs and grated cheese on top.

STEP 11

Image

Put under the grill for about 5 to 10 minutes, until the cheddar cheese has melted and gone all gooey and the breadcrumbs have turned golden brown.

Serve with some vegetables.
